John J. 'Johnny' Johnson
ALEXANDRIA [mdash]John J. "Johnny" Johnson, 85, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, from AMG Specialty Hospital in Muncie following an extended illness.
He was born on Jan. 21, 1934, to Floyd and Mabel (Levi) Johnson, and has lived in Alexandria all of his lifetime. He was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1951. John attended Ball State Teacher's College in Muncie for three years.
He entered the United States Army, served in the Drum and Bugle Corps and was honorably discharged in 1957. Johnny worked for Fisher-Body in Marion for 38 years retiring in 1994.
He was a longtime member of Alexandria First Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including ushering and singing in the choir. Johnny enjoyed speed walking and was an avid reader. Johnny was a kind and gentle spirit, always had a smile and a friendly handshake. The time he spent with his family and his church family was very precious to him.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Leach) Johnson, married May 22, 1955; daughters, Julie (Shawn) Dietzen, Alexandria, and Lori (Stephen) Miller, Winona Lake; son, Mark (Kelly) Johnson, Pendleton; grandchildren, John Michael Miller, David Stogner, Brandon Stogner and Lauren Miller; great-grandchildren, Gwen Miller, Kingston and Kyron France; brothers, Neal Johnson, Alexandria, Stan (Gloria) Johnson, Frankton; sister, Sharon (Butch) Hilligoss, Anderson; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jared Johnson; sisters, Jean Caldwell and Judy Stone; brother, Bruce Johnson.
Services honoring John's life, legacy and faith will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2019, at First Baptist Church, 2107 S. Park Ave., Alexandria, with Pastor Michael Deutsch officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
Friends may call at the First Baptist Church on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. or after noon on Monday prior to the service.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church with envelopes available at the services.

Johnny was a great person and true Gentleman. My Condolences to Shirley and their children.
There was one days difference in our age.I forgot if he was a day younger or a day older.I was born January 20, 1934. I am just glad I knew him.
