Jonathan Max Stoops, 73, Anderson, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2019, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, following an extended illness .
He was born Dec. 5, 1945, in Noblesville, to Samuel and Ava (Wooden) Stoops.
On Dec. 12, 1986, he married Kathy (Hanlin) Stoops.
Jonathan retired in 1994 from General Motors Corp. where he had worked for more than 31 years.
He was a graduate of Lapel High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 663. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Jonathan is survived by his loving wife, of 33 years, Kathy Stoops of Anderson; four sons, Jonathan (Beth Dickey) Stoops Jr., Johnny (Julie) Skinner, Rusty (Christina) Stoops, and Jason (Ashley) Stoops, all of Anderson; three daughters, Ginger Mercer of Fishers, Mayme (Cash) Canfield of Fishers, and Lisa (Jason) Hinchman of Anderson; two sisters, Marsha Kay Mills of Lapel and Joyce Ann (Steve) Chappell of Mount Comfort; several grandchildren including special grandchild, Taylor Stoops; and several nieces and nephews.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Max Stoops; and his mother, Ava Mae Stoops.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, at Dunnichay Funeral Home with Johnny Elder officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Elwood and will include services by the U.S. Military and the Elwood Veteran of Foreign Wars honor guards.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday prior to the funeral service at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson St., Elwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled Veteran's through the funeral home.

My mom loved this man with all she had. It breaks my heart to see her hurting but we both know he is in a much better place with no pain and suffering. RIP John❤
