Leesburg, Florida - Karen (Baker) Gilson, 68, of Anderson, passed away at her home in Leesburg, Florida, on June 21, 2026, with her devoted husband, John, at her side.

Karen was born on Feb. 27, 1958, in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. She will be remembered, by the many people that loved her, for her compassionate heart, upbeat personality, sense of humor and infectious smile.

Karen dedicated more than 20 years to her career as the Horseman's Bookkeeper at Hoosier Park Racing and Casino in Anderson and obtained an associates degree in accounting.

She was an active member of White Shrine and Eastern Star, loved to travel, spend time with family, friends and her husband of 17 years.

Karen was preceded in death by her father, Virgil Baker; paternal grandparents, Marion and Thelma Wools; and lifelong and best friend, Tammy Reed (Wilkinson).

She is survived by her husband, John Gilson; son, Danny Moneyhun; daughter, Crystal Davis; granddaughter, Makenzie Willhoite; grandson, Caleb Willhoite; great-grandson, Ledger Quinn; mother, Elizabeth Porter; brothers, Dave (Helen) Baker, Steve (Tina) Baker, Rick (Angie) Baker, Kevin Whitesel, Keith Whitesel; stepsister, Debbie (Terry) Buckner; stepbrothers, David (Penny) Whitesel, Mark Porter; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held July 18, 2026, at Eastview Church of the Nazarene beginning at 1 p.m. with a small service starting at 3 p.m. for anyone that wants to speak or share memories; ending the celebration in prayer around 4 p.m. This will be an informal event. We will also have light refreshments.
