Kenneth L. Surber
Kenneth "Kenny" L. Surber, 74, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 18.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Surber; his daughter, Yvette Karaffa, husband Mike; his son, Charles L. Surber, wife Amanda; two grandchildren, Millie and Lucian Karaffa; two brothers, Doug Barnes of Anderson and Dennis Barnes of Texarkana; several nieces and nephews; as well as, several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was a member of the Anderson High School Class of 1963. He joined the United States Army in 1965 and served in Vietnam as Military Police. In 1980, he and Janet founded the Anderson Stove Shop, currently Surber's Windows and Doors. He retired from Guide Lamp in 2001 after 30 years and 1 day in which left at noon. He was a member of United Auto Workers.
He was an avid bass fisherman, and he enjoyed fishing the Tuesday night bass tournaments at Geist as long as we can remember. He was a dog enthusiast, a devoted family man, and the world's greatest pappaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. Surber and Jennie James; his grandparents, Lucian and Millie Lagle who raised him; his sister, Patricia Jones; her husband, Glenn Jones; and an infant brother, Scotty Surber.
Service will be held on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. with calling beginning at 4 p.m. at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson.
Military honors will be conducted by the Daleville American Legion Post 446 Honor Guard.
