Anderson, Indiana - Larry Joe Hovermale, 79, a lifelong resident of Anderson, Indiana passed away on June 11, 2026.

He was born on Jan. 29, 1947, to Forrest and Doratha (Miller) Hovermale. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1965 and worked for General Motors/Delphi as a tool and die maker until his retirement in 2007.

He grew up next to Shadyside Park where his baseball career started and continued through high school and beyond. He also enjoyed giving back to the sport by coaching and umpiring. After retirement he worked at Primrose Retirement Community, Nestle, and Hoosier Park.

He attended South Meridian Church of God and was a 50-year member of Fellowship Lodge No. 681.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Brenda (Whitehead) Hovermale; daughter, Christy Mudd (John Branson); sons, Brian Hovermale and Casey (Misty) Hovermale; his grandchildren, Baylor (Adrienne) Mudd, Bridget Mudd, Greyson Hovermale, and Leighton Hovermale; his brother, Don (Rhonda) Hovermale; sister, Connie (Larry) Miles; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marion Hovermale; and grandson, Brenden Mudd.

Larry's family is planning a Celebration of Life at a later date. He has donated his body to the Indiana University Anatomical Education Program.
