Fredericksburg, VA - On July 23rd, 2025, "Pops" passed away, losing his battle with cancer and Alzheimer's in Fredericksburg, VA.
Jack was born on June 6, 1953, to the late Mary Louise Leffel and Laverne John "Jack" Leffel, Sr.. While attending Anderson High School, Jack worked at Matthew's Grocery Store on Broadway, ascending to AST Manager and making the rank of Eagle Scout (Troop 240, God and Country Award). Jack also gained his pilot's license at Anderson Airport and maintained his own plane. Jack graduated from Anderson High School in 1971 and continued to work for Matthew's until June 6, 1973, when he was hired by General Motors. Jack worked for GM and retired after 37 years of service. While working for GM, Jack had several jobs, including the assembly line, where he met Brenda Jean Conwell, and they were married on June 22, 1974 (52 years married). Jack was also a boiler room repairman, draftsman/designer, journeyman, electrician/tool and die, and last but not least, a proud UAW bargaining chair rep and journeyman advisor.
Jack and Brenda welcomed their first son, Gordon, in 1980, and a year later moved to Fredericksburg, Texas. Jack and the family moved back to Indiana in 1984 and would remain in Anderson until 1996 (moved to Fredericksburg, VA, July 4th, 1997). In December 1984, Jack threw away his Bears hoodie and became a HUGE COLTS FAN for life. Jack loved sports; it was always a major part of his life and his boys' lives. In 1985, his team grew by one more—Jordon Leffel was born. He took both boys to training camps, practices, and their love for the Colts grew by spending summers at Anderson University Colts camps. Jack also coached both boys in football, baseball, and basketball! Jack believed in working hard, and while working hard at GM, he was also owner of JL's Locksmith and was a bail bondsman working for Joe Burke and Leo Conwell under AAA Bail Bonds.
Jack "Pops" was a man of God and a family man and would do anything to help someone else out!
Jack was preceded in death by his brother in 1998, Tom Leffel; mother in 2008, Mary Louise Leffel; father in 2020, Laverne John, Sr.; nephew in 2013, Bryan Kempher; father-in-law in 2020, Leo Conwell; mother-in-law in 2024, Jeanie Conwell; and brother-in-law in 2021, Ray Beavers.
