Leota Sewell O'Bannon
GREENFIELD [mdash] Leota (Wright) Sewell O'Bannon, 99, passed away Nov. 6, 2019, in Indianapolis.
Leota was born, along with her identical twin sister Leola, in Hamilton County on April 25, 1920, to Warren C. and Estel Ruey (Kenton) Wright. She was a Pendleton resident for 16 years before moving to Mohawk with her niece in November 2018.
She was a 1939 graduate of Westland High School and a member of Pendleton Baptist Church. In their youth, Leota performed with her twin sister Leola as the "Girls of the Golden West."
She served as the corresponding secretary for the Reverend John Corbly Association for 34 years. We all believed she was born with a pad of paper and an ink pen in her hand, she wrote so many letters.
Leota was very musical; she played the violin, guitar, and the organ. She was the organist for the churches she attended throughout her life. She loved to read the Bible, reading it through three times. She also like to read the many books her parents had. She liked to crochet and work word searches, but music was her passion.
She married Harold K. Sewell on June 16, 1940, at Mt. Lebanon Church, south of Greenfield. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1986. She moved to Shelbyville and there met Raymond O'Bannon. They were married on July 22, 1988. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2003. She then moved to Pendleton to be with her twin Leola Murphy and husband, Ray. There she resided until moving to Mohawk.
Survivors include nieces, Linda Shull of Mohawk, Janet (Craig) Tunget of Pendleton, Jana (John) Savage of Beech Grove, Cindy Page and Mandy (Dick) Paul of Florida, Patricia Elsbury of North Carolina; nephews, Tim (Barbara) Justus of Tennessee, Warren (Connie) Wright of Shelbyville; stepdaughter, Darlene Mount of Shelbyville; several great-nieces and nephews; and her Pendleton Baptist church family, whom she loved dearly.
Leota was preceded in death by her two husbands mentioned above; her parents, Warren C. and Estel Ruey (Kenton) Wright; brother, Corbly Wright; three sisters, Leola Murphy, Anna May Bouch and Leata Ruth Wright; nephew, James Murphy; great-nephew Neal Shull; and stepdaughter, Phyliss Wright.
Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019, at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, 211 E. State St., Pendleton, with a graveside service immediately following at Park Cemetery, 621 S. State St., Greenfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pendleton Baptist Church, 207 Old State Road 132 West, Pendleton, IN 46064.
