SUMMITVILLE [mdash] Lonnie "Mick" Fields, 69, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born on Nov. 28, 1949, in Edmonton, Kentucky, to Lawrence and Maedell (Hatcher) Fields, and has lived in Summitville for most of his lifetime.
He was a graduate of Summitville High School, Class of 1967. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Mick retired in 2007 from General Motors after 35 years of employment. He was an active member of the Summitville First Baptist Church. He served on the Summitville Fire Department for 10 years and was a former member of the Summitville Town Council. Mick enjoyed traveling and antiquing.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Fields whom he married March 1, 1975; son, Jason (Glenna) Cowles of Swayzee; granddaughters, Kristina Umbarger and Lexie Fletcher; grandsons, Austin Cowles, Dawson (Gracie) Fletcher, TJ Pettigrew and Noah Fletcher; great-grandson, Joey Cowles; great-granddaughter, Athena Fletcher; sisters, Becky Hughes and Helen Wise, both of Summitville; brothers, Ralph Fields (Kay Morris) of Elwood, Dennis (Sue) Fields of Summitville, and Rick (Fran) Fields of North Manchester; brother-in-law, Ken Morris in Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Robin (Wayne) Rupe of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.
Mick was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Crystal Fields; and brother-in-law, Bobby Wise.
Services honoring Mick's life and legacy will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, at First Baptist Church, 700 E. Mill St., Summitville, with the Rev. Dennis Roberts and Pastor Paul Albrecht officiating. Military honors will follow the service and then cremation will take place. Private inurnment will take place in Vinson Memorial Cemetery in Summitville at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call at the Owens-Noffze Funeral Home, 1009 W. Walnut St., Summitville, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Thursday at the church after 10 a.m. prior to the services.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Summitville First Baptist Church through the funeral home.
