Anderson, IN - Marianne G. Mellinger, 98, passed away on Jan. 19, 2026, at Bethany Pointe Health Campus in Anderson following a brief illness.

She was born on June 6, 1927, in Youngtown, Ohio, the only child of Edward and Annagladys (Jones) Garbett.

She graduated from Youngstown State College, with a degree in business administration. She met her husband, James Richard Mellinger, through a mutual friend, and they were married for 54 1/2 years.

While her husband served in the Marines for 3 1/2 years she worked in the Youngtown Public Library and later for the supply department of the US Navy. She moved to Anderson in 2013, residing at Primrose for several years, having previously lived in Ohio, Maine and New York.

Marianne enjoyed traveling, and always kept busy volunteering in schools and public libraries. She attended Christ Lutheran Church, was a member of PEO International, and enjoyed quilting, cross stitching, reading, golf, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, David (Karla) Mellinger of Fishers, James (Cathy) Mellinger of Anderson, and William Mellinger of Florence, Arizona; four grandchildren, Brian Mellinger of Seattle, Washington, Kristina Mellinger of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Steve Mellinger of Renton, Washington, and Becky Mellinger of Columbus, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Ania Mellinger of Redmond, Washington, Alexander and Olivia Mellinger of Renton, Washington; three sisters-in-law, Jean Heller of Oberlin, Ohio, Carole Mellinger of Leetonia, Ohio and Nancy Rice of Francistown, New Hampshire; several nieces and nephews.

Marianne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; and two aunts, Marian Jones and Ida Mae Hales.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service. Burial will take place at a later date at the East Lawn Cemetery in Ithaca, New York.

Memorial contributions may be given to Christ Lutheran Church in Anderson.
