Mark McMahan Obituary

Pendleton, IN - Mark McMahan, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and a pillar of the Anderson business community, passed away on Jan. 5, 2026.

The beloved son of Judith Buchanan and George McMahan, Mark was raised from an early age with love and affection by his mother, Judith and his stepfather, Dr. Charles Austin. Mark grew up in Anderson, Indiana, and was a 1972 graduate of Anderson High School.

He then attended the University of Arizona and, upon graduation, would return home to carry on a proud family legacy, taking the helm of Hoyt-Wright.

In 1981, Mark married his wife, Darlene Hilligoss. Together, they shared 44 years of marriage and built a life centered on family with their two sons, Colin (Angela) McMahan, and Trent (Katie) McMahan. Later, he spent his time with his treasured grandsons, Owen, Rory, Jamieson, and Brady.

Mark spent many years at Hoyt-Wright, cherishing the daily interactions with customers and the challenge of leadership. His influence extended beyond the storefront; he was a dedicated member of the community, known for his active involvement in local staples like the Kiwanis Club and Anderson Little League. After his tenure at Hoyt-Wright, Mark began a second career as an Asset Management Recovery Consultant. He spent the remainder of his professional years working across the country helping others navigate the same business challenges he faced at Hoyt-Wright.

In his earlier years, Mark was a fixture of Anderson's social and athletic life. He could often be found at Anderson Country Club enjoying a round of golf with friends or spending his evenings on the local baseball fields, where he shared his love of the game by coaching his boys. This dedication to his sons, Colin and Trent, remained his greatest priority. Throughout their youth, Mark was an enthusiastic presence in their lives, serving as their biggest fan across rounds of golf, baseball and football games, basketball tournaments, and tennis sets.

Beyond his professional and athletic pursuits, Mark possessed a quiet, creative side; he had a lifelong hobby of writing poems, a testament to his thoughtful and observant nature.

In recent years, Mark entered his most beloved chapter yet: becoming "Pops." Far from slowing down, he was fully immersed in the lives of his four grandsons. He was a hands-on grandfather who was constantly on the move with the boys, ensuring that the same love and support he gave his sons was passed down to the next generation. To his grandsons, he was a source of endless joy and support.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; sons, Colin (Angela) and Trent (Katie); his grandsons, Owen, Rory, Jamieson, and Brady; siblings, Michalea Richardson, Melinda Thompson, Michael McMahan, Megan Golabowski, and Charlie Austin.
