Wesley Chapel, FL - Mattie Louise (Ledger) Hayes, 96, of Anderson, passed peacefully on Aug. 24, 2025.

Born Sept. 28, 1928, in Pineville, Kentucky, she grew up in Indiana and graduated from Anderson High School in 1946.

She married the love of her life, Jack Ware Hayes, and they shared 41 years together until his passing in 1992.

Mattie was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose home was a refuge of faith, love and freshly baked cookies. She was happiest caring for family and serving her church, Anderson First Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by children, Sharon Miller (Donald) Hertzinger and David (Michele) Hayes; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Grace Ledger; her six siblings; and her daughter, Sandra (Ronald) Karkosky.

Visitation for Mattie will be on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025, from noon to 1 p.m.

Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson.
