Alexandria, Indiana - ALEXANDRIA — Maxine A. (Adams) Gardner, 92, met her Savior, Jesus Christ face to face from her residence, as she peacefully slept while surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

She was born on Dec. 17, 1933, in Alexandria, to Clarence and Etta (Gaither) Adams, and was a lifetime Alexandria resident.

She was a graduate of Alexandria High School Class of 1951. During her high school years, Maxine met Jack Gardner. She married the love of her life on Jan. 12, 1952. Together Jack and Maxine raised three children, and in modeling their faith before their children, that faith played a very significant role in their children's lives.

Maxine retired from American General Finance Co. in 1992 after 27 years of employment.

She has been a lifetime member of the Alexandria Church of the Nazarene and has held nearly every position in the church. She was also a member of the Ladies Discovery group of the church. Maxine was an avid reader. Sports played a very strong role in the Maxine's life. She has been a lifelong Dodger fan, Indiana University football and basketball fan and would use any excuse she could to come up with a reason to attend any high school athletic event. Without a doubt, Maxine was the #1 fan of children and grandchildren, and any activities they were involved in.

Maxine would very quickly tell you that God and His Son Jesus were the center of her life's journey. There was also no doubt that she loved her sweetheart Jack. As the scripture teaches these three loves intertwined trickled down to their children and their families, and their families. What a precious legacy of love Maxine leaves . . . "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."

Survivors include daughter, Shannon (Phil) Gerbick of Naples, Florida; sons, Britt (Judy) Gardner of Lowell, Barry (Teresa) Gardner of Alexandria; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Sue Foster of Orestes; sister-in-law, Betty Adams of Hickory, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, Jack Gardner in 2011; sister, Sharlene Gipe; and brother, Darrel Adams.

Services honoring Maxine's life, legacy and faith will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the Alexandria Church of the Nazarene, 1401 S. Harrison St., Alexandria. Pastor Aaron Chester will officiate. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.

The Gardner family will receive friends on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. or on Saturday after 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alexandria Church of the Nazarene with envelopes available at the service.

Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria has been entrusted with Maxine's care and service arrangements.
