Mildred E. Gates, of Anderson, 95, passed away May 3, 2024.

She was loved by friends and family for her warmth, quick wit, and pretty smile.

Mildred graduated from Anderson High School Class of 1946 and Anderson Business College Secretarial school. She worked for Pierce Governor and was later employed by the City of Anderson as secretary to the mayor and to the Board of Public Works for 22 years. After retiring in 1998, she enjoyed reading, gardening, and feeding the birds and squirrels in her backyard. Her final years were in Charlotte with daughter Anne, son-in-law, Pete Jeffcoat; and dogs, Luke and Ginny.

She is also survived by sons, Dan (Sheila) Gates and Gary (Maria Rago) Gates; several nieces, nephews, and stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Gates; her parents, Pierre and Madge (Main) Gephart; and brothers, Ralph, Lewis, Pierre, and Max Gephart.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, in June with a burial following in East Maplewood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
