Phyllis J. Abplanalp, age 83, of Elwood, passed away on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis. Phyllis was born on June 17, 1933, in Tipton to the late Edward and Grace (Reed) McCorkle.

On June 16, 1953, she married the love of her life, Frank Abplanalp. Phyllis retired in 2015, as a bookkeeper from Mike Carter Foods after 52 years of service. She was a faithful member of East Main Street Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, shopping, mostly going to Florida where she could enjoy the beach. Phyllis loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, of 64 years, Frank Abplanalp; daughters, Carolyn (Pat Master) Starns and Kimberly (Dennis) Sitton; grandchildren, Zachery (Amanda) Mock, Jason Ingram, Alex Ingram, Andrea (Taylor) Valentine, McKenzie Masters; great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Valentine; sisters, Kathryn Ellis, Betty Van Horn and Patricia Ann (Steve Sharp) Willey; brothers, Fred (Barbara) McCorkle and Jim McCorkle; sister-in-law, Barbara McCorkle; and several nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Charles and David McCorkle.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, with Rev. Roger Gardner. Entombment will follow at the Elwood Mausoleum.

Visitation Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Elks service at 7 p.m.
