Phyllis D. (Vaught) Barton
Phyllis D. (Vaught) Barton, LPN, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday Feb. 22, 2020, in her residence.
She was born on Aug. 3, 1943, in Morehouse, Missouri, and has lived in Alexandria most of her lifetime. She graduated from Alexandria-Monroe High School, Class of 1962. Phyllis attended Anderson Business College and graduated from the Anderson School of Practical Nursing as Licensed Practical Nurse. Phyllis worked in the medical profession most of her lifetime. She worked at Countryside Manor in Anderson for 20 years, retiring in 2006. She was a member of the former Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria. She loved pets, Elvis, camping, tours of lighthouses, visiting Graceland and Elvis vigils. Phyllis was an avid fan of all sports and she was very dedicated to the profession of nursing.
Survivors: son, Chris Barton, Marion, Arkansas; daughter, Julie Barton, Alexandria; daughter-in-love, Lani Barton, South Haven, Mississppi; grandson, Gary Barton, Memphis, Tennessee, Joshua Barton, Marion, Arkansas; nieces and nephews, Christy (Ron) King, Lee (Carol) Mohler, Shane Van Horn (Rachel Bailey); special friend and caregiver, Julie Corbett; God grandchildren, Ava, Stephen and Brandon; special four-legged companions, Pepper, Skip and Bailey.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1958; her mother in 1988; her husband, Gary Barton in 1976; sisters, Patsy Vaught and Laura Humphries; nieces, Hope Mohler Johnson and Loral "Jesse" Mohler; nephew, Allen Humphries.
Services honoring Phyllis's life, legacy and faith will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, in the Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with Chaplain Doug Slack officiating. Cremation has been chosen. The family will receive friends after 4 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the services. The Madison County Nursing Honor Guard will perform a memorial service at 5:45 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the United Way of Madison County through the funeral home.
The family would like to extend their special thanks and appreciation to Mandy Brown and Melissa Hanks for walking with them on this journey.
