Anderson, Indiana - Ray F. Dowden, 89, of Anderson, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children at his residence on Dec. 30, 2025.

He was born on July 12, 1936, in Fortville, the son of Kenneth and Esther Dowden.

Ray was retired from General Motors.

He was known as the Griswold man, and was a collector of rare cast iron. Ray was an avid outdoorsman where he loved to fish, hunt, camp, and ride horses.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol P. Dowden; siblings, Sam, Jack, Art, Phyllis, Janet, Berna Lou and Beverly (Bobbi); and son, Monte Dowden.

He is survived by his sons, Kenny (Jenny) Dowden, Paul C. Patton and John Patton; daughter, Marte Dowden; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will also be missed by several friends and neighbors.

Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson.

Services will follow visitation at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will take place in Mendon Cemetery, in Pendleton.
