Robert "Bobby" Gene Denton, 80, of Alexandria, passed away after an extended illness at
Wesleyan Health and Rehabilitation Center, Marion, on Oct. 18, 2019.
He was born Jan. 9,
1939, to Harry and Irene (Heldabridle) Denton at Lake Village, Indiana. He attended Morocco High
School. Bobby served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967 and was deployed to Vietnam.
He was a member of the Operating Engineers, Local 103. He loved his family, camping, building bird houses, and keeping his dog, Duffy, by his side. Bobby moved to Florida from 1983 to 2009 before returning to Indiana.
Surviving is his wife, Denise Lane-Denton; a brother, Randy Denton, Fair Oaks.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Myra Riegle.
He and Linda Denton (deceased) had four children, two
sons, Robert Denton Jr., (Stephany) and and Cory Denton, (Melony); and three daughters, Karrie
Denton-Guthrie (Stephen), all of Middleburg, Florida, Karol Harrison of St. Marys, Georgia. From a
previous marriage, a daughter, Traci Jean Viles (Sean) of Sedalia, Missouri. He has nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Bobby also has seven stepchildren, Ret.
Colonel Daniel Lane (Andrea), Indianapolis; Douglas Lane, Summitville; Dennis Lane (Traci),
Alexandria; Sgt. David Lane, Alexandria(deployed); and Devin Lane, Summitville; Alison
Brewer; Marion; and Vickie Gunn (David), Amo. They include 16 stepgrandchildren and four
A memorial service will be held at the Matthews Cemetery, East Fourth Street, Matthews, Indiana, on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m.
The Celebration of Life will be immediately following at
the Matthews Town Hall Event Room, 816 S. Wisconsin St. The Rev. Thomas Hunt will officiate.
Donations can be made to the Howard County Vietnam Veterans, and to HVAF of
Indianapolis, Indiana.
