Anderson, Indiana - Robert Michael "Mike" Leatherman of Anderson passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from cancer. He passed peacefully at home holding the hand of his wife of 38 years, Nela Jean (Hodson) Leatherman.

Mike was born Aug. 21, 1952, in Dade County, Florida, while his father was in the service and graduated from Madison Heights High School in 1971.

He served as an E7 Sergeant with the Army National Guard for 21 years, earning multiple certifications, and as the OMS3 Shop Foreman in Anderson and Alexandria, Indiana. He also worked at the Pendleton Penitentiary as a correctional officer for 19 years until his retirement in 2014.

He enjoyed spending time in his man cave, playing euchre with his Alcoholics Anonymous buddies, and lovingly supporting his family and friends.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie; daughter, Sarina Shryock; grandchildren, Brecken (Mazi) Shryock and Tatum (Quentin Ellis) Shryock; and three great-grandchildren, Paisley, Paxton and Quency.

A family and friends gathering will be held in his memory at the Daleville American Legion on Friday, July 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
