Sally Acker-Moon Obituary

Sally Acker-Moon, 52, died March 28, 2012, at Saint John's Medical Center. She succumbed to ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's Disease) after a courageous fight. She was born Dec. 5, 1959, in Anderson and was a graduate of Anderson High School and Purdue University. She enjoyed teaching children with special needs and helping others. She served as La Presidente of La Societe De Femmes Cabane 510 for three years. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Moon; mother, Bernadine Acker; daughter, Rachel Vaughan; grandson, Elijah Andrews; granddaughter, Makayla Andrews; daughter, Kirsten Vaughan; son, Ryan Vaughan; granddaughter, Ruby Vaughan; sisters, Susan Dowling (John); sister, Ginger Caylor (Dave); Mary Lou Shannonhouse (David); several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Daryl Ann Gellinger, Dave Sargent. She was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Schang; and her father, Paul Acker. There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place with a memorial service to be determined at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Cabane 510 for Child Welfare for their annual "Special Needs" children's Christmas Party, a project initiated by Sally and very close to her heart. The family would like to thank Saint John's Home Health Care and Hospice caregivers, especially her hospice nurse, Tara, PT, Stephanie, and aides, Mary and Candy. Also, a very special thank you to her family doctor, Anthony Hill and his staff, and neurologist Dr. Caroline Stevens and her staff. ALS will now stand for...Always Loving Sally.
