ALEXANDRIA [mdash] Thomas E. "Tom" Cox, 92, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, at Wesleyan Health Care in Marion following an extended illness.
He was born June 30, 1927, in Anderson, to Chester and Catherine (Jones) Cox and had lived in Alexandria for most of his life.
Tom served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He retired from General Motors in 1980 after 30 years of employment. He was a former member of the Alexandria Eagles #1771 and was a member of a Woodcarving Club. Tom attended the Alexandria Lutheran Church of Our Blessed Savior. He enjoyed his mini-farm, raising chickens, midget ponies and goats and exotic breeds of pigeons. He was a fan of the Indiana Pacers.
Survivors include son, Rick (Karen) Cox, Alexandria; daughter, Patricia (Virgil) Swisher, Dallas, Texas; grandsons, Bradley (Mae) Swisher, Alexandria, and Ryan (Stacy) Swisher, Wabash;
great-grandchild, Brennan Swisher; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 69 years, Lucille (Brewer) Cox in 2017; granddaughter, Jennifer Cox; brothers, Glen (Judy) Cox and Richard Cox; and sister, Louise Johnson.
Services honoring Tom's life and legacy will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, in the Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with Pastor Kal Rissman officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Alexandria. Friends may call at the Owens Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Friday prior to the services.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lutheran Church of Our Blessed Savior, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Owens Funeral Home is honored to care for Tom and again serve the Cox family.
