Vnaldra D. Hockenberry
Vnaldra D. Hockenberry, 81, of Anderson, passed away Dec. 4, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, to the late Vnaldra and Ethel Hockenberry.
Vnaldra resided in the Anderson area for most of his life after college. He was graduated from Anderson University with a master's in education. He taught at Daleville High School for 38 years. He taught upper-level social studies and was a huge history buff. During his time as a teacher, he worked athletic events, cafeteria duty because he could keep everyone in line and sometimes parking lot duty. He helped a group of students develop and landscape an entire courtyard for Daleville High School during his time there.
Vnaldra was a very outgoing person who didn't know a stranger. He enjoyed spending his free time hunting, fishing and trapping. He loved to watch birds and squirrels. He and his wife spent many vacations camping at Lake Erie and attending Rendezvous festivals. In his later years he enjoyed raising rabbits. He loved his grandchildren and his family very much. He was a kind, loving person who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Vnaldra is survived by his wife of 38 years, Cynthia Sue (Reynolds) Hockenberry; children, Athena (Stephen) Wolfe and Phaedra (Mike) Gibson; grandchildren, Sydney Wolfe, Jack Wolfe, and Jason Gibson; great-grandchild, Ethel Rose Rostiser; third daughter, Violet Zadwarny; sister, Sharyn (Ed) Stumm; nephew, Ed (Lisa) Stumm; nieces, Stephanie Hartman and Mindy Gray; great-nephews, Ian, Brandon, Rylan and Chase; and great-niece, Baylee.
He is preceded in passing by his parents and sisters, Bonnie Rose and Sonya Oliveri.
A Celebration of Life will be 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 28, 2019, at Park Place Church of God, with a funeral service beginning at 3 p.m. Cremation rites were accorded through Legacy Cremation and Funeral Service - Anderson.

A brother who was always there. Hated babysitting little sister but did it because he loved me. Always came back for a visit to his roots in PA and the friends and family that he loved.
