Alexandria, Indiana - ALEXANDRIA — William P. "Billy" McCallister, 61, passed unexpectedly at his residence on Monday, June 30, 2025.
He was born Dec. 2, 1963, in Anderson, to William and Linda (Welker) McCallister, and has lived in this area all his lifetime.
He was a graduate of Pendleton High School-Class of 1982.
As a young man, he entered the work force working for Keno Construction. He later worked for Byrum Builders. Billy formed his own company known as BP's Home Maintenance which he operated for more than 30 years. For the last five years, he has been Facilities Maintenance for Meridian Services in Muncie.
Billy will be remembered as a hard worker with a kind heart. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially with his camping buddies. Billy enjoyed golfing, and was a fan of IU basketball, the Indiana Pacers, the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Fever. But most of all he was a loving husband, the "best" dad and a great brother and uncle.
He is survived by his wife, Dorene (Dorie) Vierling McCallister, whom he married April 16, 1988; daughter, Alisha McCallister of Anderson; father, William G. (Diane) McCallister of Markleville; sister, Dawn Riddle (Matt Smith) of Lapel; brother, Robert (Elieen) McCallister of Muncie; mother-in-law, Patricia Vierling of Alexandria; brother-in-law, John Vierling of Alexandria; stepsister, Jami Neal of Ridgeville; nephews, Dalton Riddle and Austin Vierling; niece, Olivia (CJ) Herra; great-nieces, Myra Herra, and Magenta Herra; his 4-legged companions, Colt, Indy, Pacer and Hoosier; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.
Billy was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Abbott; father-in-law, John Vierling; grandparents, Otto (Thelma) McCallister, Paul (Martha) Welker, Harry (Lucille) Lowe, and Bud (Mable) Vierling.
Simple cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria.
A public Celebration of Billy's life will be announced by the family at a future date.
