William Avery Owens Obituary

Anderson, Indiana - William Avery Owens, 85, of Anderson, passed away on Dec. 10, 2023.

Avery was born on April 14, 1938, in Russell Springs, Kentucky, to Almon and Opal (Foley) Owens. Avery married the love of his life, Patricia "Patti" Bernard, and the two were married for 58 years before his passing.

He faithfully served our country in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge. He worked for the United States Postal Service for a number of years before retiring.

Avery found his spiritual home at First Baptist Church and was a faithful member for many years. He loved being outdoors and working on his lawn, which always remained immaculate. Avery was a very humble and selfless man, he was grateful for many things that most of us take for granted. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. This world will be a much dimmer place without Avery in it.

Avery will be dearly missed by his wife, Patti; son, Craig (Jeni) Owens; grandchildren, Natalie, Adam, Katie (fiancé, Joe Steigmeyer), Luke, and Nicholas; sister, Wilmoth (Verlus) Polston; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Chad Jason Owens; siblings, Lillian Wynia, Ethridge Owens, and Charles Alton Owens; and sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Art) Landers and Peggy (Carey) Johnson.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 907 N. Raible Ave., Anderson. The funeral ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Avery's name may be gifted to First Baptist Church.

Services have been entrusted to Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory.
